Innovation Roundtable 2019

University Libraries and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will host Innovation Roundtable 2019: How Information Fuels Innovation on Wednesday, November 20, from 10-11:30 a.m. All members of the CMU community are invited to register to attend the event in the Connan Room of the Cohon University Center.

The Innovation Roundtable brings together students, faculty, and researchers to discuss how the resources and services provided by the University Libraries and the SEI fuel innovation, problem solving, and collaboration. The November 20 event will include several speakers and two panel discussions.

The first discussion will feature Matthew Marsteller, principal librarian, and Shayan Gupta, a junior in the College of Engineering and CEO of Audition Technology, to discuss Marsteller’s patent searching consultation for Gupta’s start-up in preparation for the submission of a provisional patent last August. Associate Dean of Research and Academic Services Alicia Salaz will moderate their discussion.

For the second panel, Ritwik Gupta, a machine learning research scientist in the SEI’s Emerging Technology Center, and Dan Costa, the technical team lead of enterprise threat and vulnerability management technical solutions in the CERT Division, will interview students Nicholas Miller, Mary Grace Kozuch, and Sandra Sajeev about their experience in the SEI internship program, highlighting the opportunities and rewards of internship.

The event will also include: 

  • opening and closing remarks by Keith Webster, dean of University Libraries
  • an overview of library services by Ana Van Gulick and Huajin Wang, University Libraries
  • remarks by Tom Longstaff, SEI chief technical officer
  • an overview of the SEI internship program by Bobbie Stempfley, CERT Division managing director; Tom Longstaff; and Michele Tomasic, CERT Division director of operations
  • light refreshments
