Student Advisory Council Celebrates Living History Through Student Organizations

As the 2025 spring semester comes to a close, the 2024-2025 Libraries Student Advisory Council (LSAC) is putting the finishing touches on their year-long archiving project to collect and preserve artifacts from student groups on campus. On Tuesday, April 22, join LSAC from 5–7 p.m. in Hunt Library’s IDeATe Studio B as they showcase primary sources and other historic materials in “Living History: Tracing CMU Culture Through Student Organizations.”

Bioinformatics Hackathon Elevates Computational Biology Research

From March 3–5, CMU Libraries partnered with California-based cloud computing and bioinformatics company DNAnexus to host their fifth annual collaborative bioinformatics hackathon in Pittsburgh. More than 30 participants from all over the world teamed up to explore machine learning and AI approaches to computational biology problems, sharing expertise, learning from their peers, and even engaging in a bit of friendly competition.

Doctoral Researchers Connect Beyond Disciplines in 3MT Championship

Ten doctoral students shared their complex research and made connections across disciplines during the championship round of Carnegie Mellon University's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, held Tuesday, March 11 in McConomy Auditorium of the Cohon University Center. This year’s finalists, who hailed from departments across campus, were challenged to present their theses for a general audience in under three minutes.

Registration Opens for AI Literacy Workshop

On Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1, the Libraries is hosting a two-day, hands-on workshop designed to introduce attendees to frameworks for applying AI responsibly and effectively. Undergraduate and graduate students from across campus are invited to register to attend, whether they are already involved in building their own AI, or are simply interested in exploring AI opportunities in the future.

Pathways to Impact: Careers in Sustainability Photo Gallery

On Sunday, Feb. 16, the Pittsburgh Youth Leaders in Sustainability network — led by members of CMU’s Sustainability Initiative team — hosted Pathways to Impact: Careers in Sustainability. Students from universities across Pittsburgh gathered to connect with 10 different employers from sustainability-related organizations to network, discuss goals and challenges, and explore potential career options.
