Role Playing Games and Community
The University Libraries Student Advisory Council is seeking new membership for the 2025-2026 academic year. All undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply.
Students who serve on the Libraries Student Advisory Council have the opportunity to gain a unique perspective on the operations of the Libraries, and obtain valuable experience in student leadership, teamwork, and creativity.
Interested students should fill out this application form by Wednesday, September 9. Applicants will be notified directly about next steps.
Member Activities
This year’s Student Advisory Council will focus on the Libraries’ new Role Playing Game (RPG) Collection. The cohort will work with Arts and Humanities Librarian Ashley Werlinich and Business and Entrepreneurship Librarian Jennifer McKee to learn about how the games we play can intersect with ideas of community, creativity, expression, and belonging.
Members will read, explore, playtest, and discuss a variety of role playing games throughout the year — learning about how to critique and recommend games to different audiences, and how to see games not just as things that we play, but as experiences that can appeal to varying interests, playstyles, purposes, and perspectives.
As a final project for this group, members will create recommendation guides for different role playing games in the library, which will be used to drive student and community engagement with, and increase the accessibility and visibility of, these exciting new materials in our collections.
Students will also have the opportunity to promote a channel of communication between the Libraries and student body on campus by providing input and feedback on Libraries services, collections, spaces, and events.
