Spring 2026, Part 2
At the University Libraries, students help staff Hunt Library, the Posner Center for Special Collections, and Sorrells Library. Students offer support in a variety of different areas: interning in the Sustainability Studio, assisting in the University Archives, sitting at the front desk, and helping with the Libraries’ many events.
These talented students work at the Roger Sorrells Engineering and Science Library, located on the fourth floor of Wean Hall.
Anna Bukhman is a sophomore studying business administration in the Tepper School of Business. She works as a Circulation Assistant at Sorrells Library, where she is stationed at the front desk to keep everything running smoothly. She welcomes visitors, checks out items, and helps patrons with any issues they may have, from lost items to troubleshooting technology.
“I want to take the time to celebrate the people in Sorrells Library, as well as the other libraries on campus, that work hard to make these spaces accessible and usable for all the students.”
Christina Tang is a senior double majoring in business administration and statistics. She works as a student assistant at Sorrells Library, where she helps students borrow electronics and books. She also spends her time giving directions to people who have gotten lost inside Wean, and helping students use the printers. One resource that she often uses in the Libraries is EZBorrow and Interlibrary Loan, which she has used to source books for class.
“The most important thing I want other students to know is just how much is available if you truly utilize the Libraries. I didn’t realize the full extent of what I could borrow until my second year, especially with the resources in the IDeATe lab. For example, when a friend needed a professional headshot on a very tight schedule, we were able to borrow a high-quality camera and get it done right away.”
Tiffany Lin is a junior studying business administration and statistics, with a minor in human-computer interaction. She works as a front desk assistant at Sorrells Library, where she helps students access resources and check out items, as well as answering questions. She wishes that more students would take advantage of all that the libraries have to offer, from equipment to research databases and study spaces.
“The Libraries, to me, are one of the few places on campus where you are motivated by your immediate environment to lock in. There is no spoken pressure, no fear of coming off as nerdy. As someone who's both worked here and studied here, the Libraries represent a kind of anchor in the chaos of CMU life.”
Anish Bore is a sophomore studying biology and Hispanic studies. He works as a library assistant, helping with check-outs and returns. One of his favorite parts about the libraries is the spaces that they provide to get work done, from the Hunt Library study rooms to the black chairs in Sorrells.
“The most important thing I would want others to understand is that the Libraries can offer so much help, I think people underestimate how much the Libraries provide.”
