Tartan Datascapes January 2022: Data-Flavored Workshops at CMU Libraries this Spring!

Welcome to the first installment of Tartan Datascapes for 2022! While we’re continuing to find ourselves navigating the challenges of the pandemic, I’m heartened by the exciting things happening on our campus to help keep folks engaged and supported during this often-difficult time. We’re no exception at CMU Libraries, and in the data world, we have a whole slate of exciting workshops to offer our CMU community this semester! Whether you’d like to learn more about keeping your data tidy and organized, making neat visualizations for your presentations and research papers, writing fanfiction using data from an original popular culture source, creating arts and crafts about data, or even learn more about what Pokémon can teach us about data, we’ve got something for everyone! Many of them are taught by yours truly, and I can promise that my workshops are super low-key and have lots of popular culture puns (which may or may not be exciting to you, but still!).

Remember, “data” doesn’t have to just be numbers that live in a spreadsheet. Data can be images, audio, film, digital resources such as articles, physical items, notes, and a whole realm of other things that you may create and/or encounter in the process of your research and schoolwork! No matter what “data” looks like for you, you’ll find a helpful workshop from us at CMU Libraries. Check out direct links to our virtual and in-person offerings below, and feel free to reach out to us at data@cmu.libanswers.com if you have any questions! Space is limited, so register soon!
