Fines & Lost items

CMU Libraries charges fines for overdue items. Faculty and staff are now assessed fines on ALL overdue materials.
The Libraries also bills users for lost or damaged items, including peripheral parts (case, charger, etc.).

You can pay your fine with check or cash at any circulation desk. If your HUB account is charged, there's a processing fee in addition to your fines and fees from the Libraries.

*fines go to HUB account and cannot be paid at Libraries

In some cases fines, unreturned items, or other bills may lead to a block on your library account. Users with blocked accounts can't borrow items until the bill is settled.


Block reason Explanation
Another user has requested an item you have checked out You have 14 days to return an item once you receive an email notification. Please return the item to a circulation desk.
You have overdue fines If your fines exceed $25 or you have 10 overdue items.
You checked out Course reserves but didn't return the materials Course reserves cannot be removed from the library. If you remove a course reserve item or fail to return it after 2 hours, your account will be blocked until you return the item to the circulation desk.
You're a student at a local college or university Please make sure you don't have any overdue materials or need to pay a fine.
