Catalog and Search Portals

Libraries Catalog contains records for the majority of our physical and digital collections. Resource types include: books, peer-reviewed articles, eBooks, journals, music scores, audio CDs, conference proceedings, reports, government documents, film, dissertations, theses, newspaper articles, book reviews, and digital images. Browse or search for virtual reserves, streaming music, streaming video, and multimedia equipment in Collection Discovery. A list of new physical materials (books, maps, and more) and new eBooks acquired by CMU Libraries in the last 90 days is now available.

Databases, eResources & Tools — Use databases to find articles, proceedings, reports, datasets and other material for your assignments and research projects.

Journals & Newspapers — Browse all library electronic journals and find quick access to popular newspapers such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and more.

Research Guides — Explore our research guides for curated resources across disciplines for specific topics and course information.

Technology — Browse our collection of technology items, including iPads, calculators, charging cables and headphones.

Institutional Repository

KiltHub @ CMU — The University Libraries provides an institutional repository and research collaboration platform named KiltHub for research data and scholarly outputs produced by members of Carnegie Mellon University and their collaborators.

Other Catalogs

University Archives — The Carnegie Mellon University Archives is responsible for documenting and preserving the history of the university from its founding in 1900 to the present day.

Special Collections — Make an appointment to visit Special Collections to work with rare and unique print materials.

  • Posner Memorial Collection — The Posner Memorial Collection includes more than 1,000 volumes of great books that document ideas that have shaped the world.
  • Architecture Archives — Explore the Architecture Archives' thousands of drawings and blueprints, extensive files of manuscripts and photographs, and a number of architectural models — records that document the work of hundreds of designers.

Course Reserves

Course Reserves are added at the request of course instructors and searchable by course name, course number, or professor. Physical Course Reserves are housed at library circulation desks for short-term use while Virtual Reserves are accessible online.

Tips for Successful Searching

After searching keywords or phrases, use the filters on the left to narrow down your results by availability, library, location, resource type, etc.

The "Expand Results" checkbox will include additional items that are not necessarily full-text, or items you can request via Interlibrary Loan.

Sign-in in order to:

  • View account and renew items
  • Place holds and book technology and equipment
  • View full search results (some databases only show results when you're signed in)
  • Export to citation managers
  • Create favorites lists

Connecting from Off Campus

Working remotely? Current CMU students, faculty, and staff have access to all electronic library materials from off campus. All other users must be on campus and request temporary computer access to use electronic materials.
