About

Frankenstein’s creation has become a metaphor for hubris, overreach, and discovery divorced from humanity; it is also an argument for ethical creation. Over the past two hundred years, as technology has continued to evolve at an ever-increasing pace, this metaphor has been applied to atomic weapons, cloning, genetic modification, and artificial intelligence, making the issues of ethics and responsibility in science more relevant than ever. CMU stands at the forefront of artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology, and is uniquely positioned to address these topics.

The Frankenstein 200: Perils and Potential programming will gather thought leaders from the CMU community to weigh in on the hazards and opportunities that come from innovation.
