Carnegie Mellon Libraries: User Services: Interlibrary Loan: How much does it cost?
How much does
it cost?
Interlibrary
loan is usually a free service for library users.
Carnegie
Mellon absorbs the costs for all interlibrary loans that can be obtained from
lending libraries for $25 or less. This is by far the majority of requests.
If
it will cost more than $25 to obtain an interlibrary loan, we will notify
you to decide whether or not you are willing to pay the difference (the amount
over $25) to obtain the item.
If
so, prepayment is required - either with an Oracle account number
or by personal check.
If
not, you may cancel the request at no cost.
FYI:
Most costs
associated with interlibrary loan historically are absorbed by the libraries
that provide interlibrary loan service to their users.
Royalty
fees (determined by copyright) are the most frequent reason that you might
have to pay to obtain an interlibrary loan.
