What if I don't return checked-out items?

Library Fines and Fees

• Overdue items
  
  
  • Most materials: 25 cents per day overdue - 7 days per week, up to $25 per item.
    • After 30 days, items are designated "lost."
      
  • Course reserves: 50 cents per hour overdue, up to $40 per per item.
    • After 7 days, items are designated "lost."
      
  • Recalls: If not returned within 3-5 days, 25 cents per day overdue - 7 days per week, until date due.
    • After date due, regular overdue fines are added (fine becomes 50 cents per day) and overdue procedures apply.
  • Recreational DVDs: $1 per day overdue - 7 days per week, up to $40 per item.
    • After 30 days, items are designated "lost."
  • VisualStudio CDs: 50 cents per hour overdue, up to $40 per per item.
    • After 7 days, items are designated "lost."
      
  • Journals: 50 cents per hour overdue, up to $40 per per item.
    • After 7 days, items are designated "lost."
      
  • If you do not pay overdue fines:
    • We send your delinquent account to The HUB for collection.
    • You cannot register for classes, graduate, or obtain official university transcripts until the debt is paid.
    • Legal action to collect debt is a university option.
      
      
• Lost or damaged items
  
  
  • Most items: overdue fine + cost of replacement + $25 processing fee + $5 billing fee.
    
  • Course reserves: overdue fine + cost of replacement + $50 rush processing fee + $5 billing fee.
    
  • If you return the "lost" item before replacement is ordered: overdue fine + $5.
    
  • If you return the "lost" item after replacement is ordered: costs in full (above).
    
  • If you are charged for a lost item:
    • You cannot borrow any other items until you pay costs or return the item.
      
  • If you do not pay for lost or damaged items:
    • We send the delinquent account to The HUB for collection.
    • You cannot register for classes, graduate, or obtain official university transcripts until the debt is paid.
    • Legal action to collect debt is a university option.
      

Blocked (loss of) Borrowing Privileges

• If you fail to return an item in response to a "recall" for course reserves:

  • Your privileges are blocked immediately.
  • After 3 days, an overdue fine will begin to accrue.
  • You cannot borrow other library materials until you return the item.
    
    
• If you fail to return an item in response to a "recall" for another user:
• Your privileges are blocked after 11 days.
• After 5 days, an overdue fine will begin to accrue.
• You cannot borrow other library materials until you return the item.
  
  
• If you are charged for a lost or damaged item:
• You cannot borrow other library materials until you pay the costs or return the item.
