HELIOS provides electronic access to major portions of the congressional papers of the late Senator H. John Heinz III of Pennsylvania. Named in the Senator's memory, the Heinz Electronic Library Interactive Online System allows researchers to search, browse, view and print digital images from the Heinz Archives. Researchers now have access to over 760,000 images from the Heinz Senate Papers (1977-1991), and over 30,000 images from the Heinz House Papers (1971-1976).

HELIOS supports conventional access to archival materials, and adds powerful new functions for searching and retrieving documents, which were developed by Carnegie Mellon archivists and implemented with CLARITECH Corporation software.
