The following are copyright sites with a focus on digital images:

2. What information do I need to search the database?
Fill in as little or as much as you know about the image. Although it may be best to start out your search with just one field, you can build up your search to include more fields and terms, as you become more familiar with the database.

3. I'm having trouble finding images from a particular artist.
Check your spelling. If you are unsure of an artist's name check the Getty Institute's Union List of Artist Names (ULAN). Alternatively, do a partial search using the first 3-4 letters of the name.

EXAMPLE: Typing in "Horn" under the Creator Personal Name field will pull up "Hornbostel."

4. I'm unsure of what terms to use in the "Style or Period" field.
On the search page please see the link below the "Style, Period" field for terminology. You can also try a partial search using the first 3-4 letters of the term.

EXAMPLE: Typing "Gree" under Style or Period will pull up "Greek."

5. Still having trouble finding what you're looking for?
If you cannot find what you're looking for, please check back; we are constantly adding images to the database. If you would like to suggest additions to the Digital Image Database, please read our policy for Requesting Digital Images or contact Beth Kellogg at ekellogg@andrew.cmu.edu or (412) 268-3511.

6. I'm having trouble printing my list of search results.
In the browser toolbar go to File: Page Set Up: Orientation: Landscape (located in the lower left hand corner).

7. What image sizes are available?
The images in the database are made available in three different sizes:

8. I'm having trouble viewing the larger, projection size image in Internet Explorer.
In Internet Explorer the large projection size image is reduced to fit your screen by default. Roll your mouse over the image to bring up the "enlarge" icon. Clicking this icon will enlarge your image to full size. Clicking the icon again will return it to screen size.

9. I'm having trouble closing the larger, projection size image.
The large projection size image opens in a separate window. To close the window and return to the database, click on the "x" in the upper right hand corner (in MS Windows) or select "close" from the file menu.
