• Community of Science (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Community of Science is a global registry designed to provide accurate, timely, easy-to-access information about what new funding opportunities exist, and who is working on what subject, and where. "Science" in this context is defined along the lines of the Latin word "scientia," meaning "knowledge."

• Literature of the Nonprofit Sector Online
  LNPS Online is a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy. It incorporates the unique contents of the Foundation Center's five libraries and contains more than 21,700 full bibliographic citations, of which more than 14,400 have descriptive abstracts. It is updated daily.

  HUNT REF-1  INDEX
  This literature guide on current international economic and social conditions presents a public policy perspective. It covers articles, books, conference proceedings, government documents, book chapters, and statistical directories about public affairs. The print version must be used for years prior to 1972; only the online database is available after 1994.
  
  
• ProQuest Direct (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Dates of coverage vary by collection (updated daily)
  ProQuest is an excellent source of information on topics of concern to nonprofit organizations, especially from a business perspective. In addition to broad journal coverage, the database includes national newspapers such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Many articles are in full-text and image format.

• Web of Science (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  1945- (updated weekly)
  Web of Science is a multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the literature of the sciences, social sciences and the arts & humanities. Users may choose to search across all the databases, or select just one. This unique database indexes and links cited references for each article. All formats provide complete bibliographic data and additional features, such as cited reference searching, links to related articles, plus author and publisher addresses.

• Idealist
  Links are provided to thousands of nonprofit organizations around the world.

• International Center for Not-for-Profit Law
  ICNL is an international not-for-profit organization that seeks to facilitate and support the development of civil society and the freedom of association. ICNL assists in creating and improving laws and regulatory systems that permit, encourage, and sustain voluntary, independent, not-for-profit organizations (NPOs) in countries around the world. Their work has principally centered on not-for-profit legal issues in developing and transition countries.
  
  
• National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS)
  The Center is a national repository of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States. Its mission is to develop and disseminate high quality data on nonprofit organizations and their activities for use in research on the relationships between the nonprofit sector, government, the commercial sector, and the broader civil society. The Center was established in 1982 and has been a program of the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) at the Urban Institute since July 1996. Both national and state data are available.

• NGO Cafe
  The Cafe is a response to the growing importance and voice of NGOs in development. It is designed as a meeting place for NGOs to discuss, debate, and disseminate information on their work, strategies, and results. Some types of NGOs are: relief and welfare agencies; technical innovation organizations; public service contractors; popular development agencies; grassroots development organizations; and advocacy groups and networks.

• FirstGov for Nonprofits
  The Gateway is a network of links to federal government information and services. The links to Cabinet Departments and many agencies contain information about grants, regulations, taxes, and other services.
• Nonprofit Resource Center
  The NRC site contains a comprehensive list of links relating to all aspects of nonprofit organizations: managing, fundraising, financing, accounting, grant writing, and marketing.
• Tax Information for Charities and Other Non-Profits
  Information from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about the latest tax information for non-profit organizations.

• WWW Virtual Library: Nongovernmental Organizations Directory
  This site provides a list of directories and some principal NGOs, including organizations like Amnesty International, Green Net, and Third World Network.

The Foundation Center

• The Foundation Center (New York City)
  The mission of the Foundation Center is to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects. The online library includes links to nonprofit resources, a foundation finder, an orientation to fundseeking tutorial, and more.

• The Foundation Center (Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - CLP)
  The Foundation Center print and electronic resources are accessible whenever the Main Library is open. Make an appointment (622-1917) if you will need assistance as the Center is not staffed at all hours. The web site has additional information.

  More than 10,000 grants available from public & private sources for nonprofits and individuals in U.S. and Canada; special focus on sponsored research opportunities.

  Over 60,000 US foundations, corporate givers, and grantmaking public charities with descriptions of ~150,000 more recent grants.

• Directory of Pennsylvania Foundations
  Profiles of Pennsylvania foundations, including grants list.

• Prospector's Choice
  Approximately 10,000 profiles of the top private and corporate foundations and corporate direct giving programs, with about 76,000 recent grants listed. Comprehensive biographical information.
