Second Language Acquisition
Associations and Research Centers
- Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (University of Minnesota)
- Center for Applied Linguistics. A group of scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing language-related problems.
- International Commission on Second Language Acquisition.
- Linguistic Society of America. Professional organization for the field of Linguistics, founded in 1924.
National Language Resource Centers. The United States Department of Education has awarded grants to a small number of institutions for the purpose of establishing, strengthening, and operating national foreign language resource and training centers to improve the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Presently there are nine Title VI Language Resource Centers nationwide.
Databases
- ClasePeriódica. Index to Latin American periodicals in humanities, social science, science and technology, 1975-present. Spanish language.
- Dissertation Abstracts. Search for PhD dissertations (and some Masters theses) by author, title, or subject. Includes lengthy summaries (abstracts).
- ERIC. Contains bibliographic citations and abstracts to journal articles, research and technical reports in the field of education. The ERIC documents on microfiche are available at the Hillman Library, University of Pittsburgh.
- LLBA (Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts). Excellent source for identifying research articles and other scholarly publications.
- MLA. The leading index for language and literature studies. Also some coverage of critical theory, folklore, film and linguistics.
- PsycInfo. Premier database for the literature of psychology, 1861-present.

- Applied Linguistics WWW Virtual Library.
- Bilingualism (University of Birmingham).
- Foreign Language Teaching Forum (State University of New York College at Cortland).
- Language in Development Forum (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). A resource for language teaching professionals and organizations interested in how to make change happen in language education, especially people who work on international language aid projects in under-developed countries.
- The Linguist List: ESL and EFL. Links to resources on teaching of English as a Second Language and English as a Foreign Language.
- Multicultural and Multilingual Education. This page in the Education Research Guide contains several links on multicultural and multilingual education.
