Full Text Journal Collections

Below are the full text journal collections most relevant to history. To see others, go to Full-text Journals.

• Cambridge Journals Online (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Online access to Cambridge University Press journals to which the Carnegie Mellon Libraries have print subscriptions. Create your own username and password to use each time you login. Browse the tables of contents, view abstracts, and click on the "article text" button at the end of the abstract to display the full text in PDF format using Adobe Acrobat.

• Electronic Collections Online (ECO) (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Access academic journals in many disciplines and from many publishers. If Carnegie Mellon Libraries subscribes to the journal, you may read and print full text articles online. If not, use the article citations to request articles by interlibrary loan.

• JSTOR (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Search or browse backfiles of major academic journals. A print helper application and a laser printer are required for printing articles. Instructions for downloading and installing the print helper are displayed when you click "Print Article" in JSTOR.

• Project Muse (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Originating at Johns Hopkins University, Project Muse currently provides full-text access to over 300 humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 publishers.

Full Text Databases

Below are the full text databases most relevant to history.

• Expanded Academic ASAP via InfotracWeb (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Select Expanded Academic ASAP, go to advanced search. In the entry or seach box, type jn then the name of the journal. You can also limit your search to articles with text by clicking the box under Limit the current search (optional). A list of all the journals in the databases, with dates of coverage and full text availability is avaliable at Expanded Academic ASAP.^TM Other options for viewing the title list can be found at Gale Group Databases.

• Lexis-Nexis (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Provides access to several databases, most of which are full text. To see if a journal is available with full text, select Sources and type in or browse for the title you want. If your title is located, you can click on About this title to get more information about full text availablility, etc. If you click on Search this title, a search screen will come up with the Search this publication title(s): portion filled in. Be sure that the Source choices reflect the title for which your are searching. For example, if you are searching for a magazine or journal in the News section, be sure to change Source to Magazine & Journal. Also be sure the date reflects what you want to search. This database is best for magazines and journals dealing with international and foreign affairs, policy, and law reviews. It does not contain many of the usual history journals.

• ProQuest Direct® (Carnegie Mellon users only)
  Provides access to several databases, many of which are full text. To see if a journal is available with full text, select all databases, continue, then select Publication. Type in the name of the journal. A full sheet icon and/or camera indicates full text availablity. Lists of all the journals in the databases, with dates of coverage and full text availability are available at ProQuest® Academic & Library Database Title Lists and ProQuest® Discovery and ProQuest® Research Library Title Lists.
