- Hoover's
Online give overviews, key financial figures and lists of products
and competitors in one easy-to-locate source.
- LEXIS-NEXIS
UNIVERSE
Choose the Company Financial Information section to access the
Hoover's guides online. From that screen, change the "Report Type" to
Hoover's Company Reports. There are two types of Hoover's reports here,
"Capsule," which is brief, and "Profile," which is longer. Also note,
under Report Type in this section of Lexis-Nexis, there are other company
overview products available that are similar to Hoover's - the S&P
Corporate Descriptions, for example - which provide additional sources
of analyses.

The North American
MDDI database provides basic information for approximately 160,000 U.S.
public and private businesses. Industrial companies as well as utilities,
banks and savings and loans, transportation and insurance companies are
listed alphabetically. Also included are selected domestic subsidiaries
of foreign corporations. Company names are arranged alphabetically in the
white pages of each of the three volumes. Yellow pages list companies geographically
and blue pages list companies by product classification (SIC code).

Bradstreet's Regional Business Directory (Carnegie Mellon users only)

The CD-ROM contains brief information about companies in Pittsburgh and
surrounding counties. It is searchable by company name, industry, geographic
divisions and other variables.

E-commerce Sourcebook.

The book contains listings for consultants and leading companies in e-commerce
that provide software, website design and hosting. It also provides information
on e-commerce-related trade associations, trade shows, government regulatory
agencies, educational programs and publications. One section contains rankings
of major companies by revenue and number of employees.

Business Directory of US Private and Public Companies. Detroit: Gale

This set has a special volume that ranks companies by industry (SIC code).
