MAC SCANNING PROCEDURE

Image Scanning Instructions
- Place your image on the scanner glass.
- Open the Macintosh HD by clicking on the desktop icon. Open the folder named "CMU Applications". Open Adobe Photoshop CS3 alias.
- Under the File menu, select Import -> EPSON Expression 10000XL. A window opens, displaying the controls for the scanner.
- In the Epson Scan window, go to the Mode pull-down menu in the top right corner. Select "Professional Mode".
- Click PREVIEW. This will produce an image of the entire scanner glass.
- By holding down on the mouse, use the crosshair cursor to enclose the part of the image you would like to scan.
- Adjust your scanner settings in the left window, including the type of scan, the resolution, etc. (We recommend scanning at 72 DPI for images you will use on a monitor and 300 DPI for images you want to print.)
NOTE: Increasing the DPI when scanning will increase quality, but will also increase the size of your file and your printing time.
- When you are satisfied with your settings, click SCAN.
- The scanned image opens in Photoshop. Save your image. Under the File menu, select "Save As". Name your file, choose a location for saving (Desktop, your user folder, etc.), and designate a format (jpeg, psd, gif, etc.).
- When you are finished working with the image, close the application by selecting "Quit Photoshop" from the Photoshop pull-down menu.
- Transfer your files. Files are regularly deleted from our computers.

- Place your document on the scanner glass.
- Open the Macintosh HD by clicking on the desktop icon. Open the folder named "Applications". Open Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Double click the icon for Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- After Acrobat loads, under the File menu, select CREATE PDF -> FROM SCANNER. In the new window, select "Epson Expression 10000 XL" from the scanner pull-down menu under Input. Click SCAN.
- A window opens to save the scanned file. Name your file, choose a saving location and designate the format as Adobe PDF. Click SAVE.
- In the Epson Scan window, go to the Mode pull-down menu in the top right corner. Select "Professional Mode".
- Click PREVIEW. This will produce an image of the entire scanner glass.
- By holding down the mouse, use the crosshair cursor ro enclose the section or page you would like to scan.
- Adjust your scanner settings in the left window, including the color mode, resolution, exposure type, etc. Click SCAN.
NOTE: Increasing the DPI when scanning will increase quality, but will also increase the size of your file and your printing time.
- After scanning is complete, the Acrobat Scan window opens. If you have additional pages to scan, place the next page on the scanner glass and select "scan more pages". If you are finished scanning, select "scanning complete". Click OK.
- When you are finihsed working with the file, close the application by selecting "Quit Acrobat" under the Acrobat menu.
- Transfer your files. Files are regularly deleted from our computers.
Move your files between computers in one of four ways: WEBMAIL, flash drive, CD burning, and FTP (with Fetch).

- Send scanned files to yourself through WEBMAIL at http://webmail.andrew.cmu.edu.
- Save files to a flash drive.
- Save files to a recordable CD.
- Insert your blank CD. (Use the Eject button at the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard to open the CD tray).
- At the automatic prompt, select OPEN FINDER and click OK. A CD icon appears on the Desktop.
- Drag your files to the CD icon.
- To burn the CD, drag the CD icon to the Trash icon at the bottom of the screen. At the prompt, click BURN.
- When you have finished recording, eject the CD by dragging it to the Trash icon.
- FTP files to your AFS account through Fetch.
- Open the Macintosh HD by clicking on the desktop icon. Open the folder named "CMU Applications". Open Fetch alias.
- Type "unix.andrew.cmu.edu" for the Host and your Andrew login for the User ID and Password. Cllick CONNECT.
- Your AFS account window opens. Click PUT in the row of icons at the top of the window.
- A new window opens listing files on the Mac. Find and highlight your file. Click PUT.
- To disconnect from your AFS account, select CLOSE from the File menu.
- Exit the application by selecting QUIT FETCH from the Fetch pull-down menu.
