Requesting Digital Images
Policy:
Carnegie Mellon University faculty, staff and students may request digital images as additions to the current collection. When possible, the Arts Resource Specialist will attempt to acquire images through vendors. Images, unavailable commercially, will be created in house. The requester is responsible for providing the material to be reproduced as well as completing the image request form. Source material must be of adequate quality for reproduction and the images must fall within the general applicability of subject matter for use in Carnegie Mellon University courses. Proper descriptive information must be provided for each image.
Carnegie Mellon University faculty or staff members may request up to 100 new digital images per course over a semester. Carnegie Mellon University students assigned to give a presentation in a Carnegie Mellon University credit course may request production of up to 25 digital images. There is no charge to faculty, staff or students for images that become the property of the collection.
Image requests will be made accessible via our in house Digital Image Database. Images needed prior to their inclusion in the database, may be retrieved via a CD-R (provided by the patron).
Procedure:
Check the Digital Image Database as well as the various other image databases we subscribe to, such as ARTstor, to ensure that the image(s) are not already available digitally. Please see a staff member for assistance if you are unsure of how to search these collections.
Be sure that the images you've selected to be reproduced are clearly marked or identified and are of adequate quality for reproduction. Proper descriptive information must be provided for each image.
Leave the images you've selected, along with a completed request form, with the staff at the Visual Resources Office.
Depending on the amount of orders in queue and the size of the order itself, requests, at a minimum, may take up to of 14 working days. The requester will be notified via email once the order is completed.
If you have any questions regarding the policy or procedure for requesting digital images please contact Amy Mans, the Arts Resources Specialist at (412) 268-3511 or aperrier@andrew.cmu.edu
