Report Problems with Digital Audio Reserves
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Procedure for Instructors
- Fill out a Digital Audio Reserves Request Form [.xls]
- Fill out one form for each course playlist. NOTE: Playlists may not exceed 50 tracks
- List works in the order you would like them to display
- You may do either of the following:
- Submit CDs with playlists you have created yourself. Please be sure they are in mp3 format.
- Have the Music Listening Office create your playlist for you. Drop off the form and any CDs that the library does not own to the Music Listening Office. The Music Librarian will make every effort to purchase any CDs the library does not own.
- Andrew Perlman, aperlman@andrew.cmu.edu or x82452, will process your request, convert the files into RealAudio format, and e-mail static URLs to you so that you can insert them into your Blackboard course. There will be one URL for each playlist that you submit. Students will be able to move from track to track within RealPlayer. They will be able to listen but not download the materials since this is a streaming service only.
How to access Digital Audio Reserves
Note: You will first need RealPlayer installed on your computer. This can be downloaded for free by going to http://www.real.com and choosing the correct player for your system.
1. Once in your Blackboard course, click on the URL.
2. Enter Andrew ID and Password. This will launch Real Player and you should begin hearing the music. If there are any problems with accessing the reserves, a good place to start for computing help is https://www.cmu.edu/computing/webiso/troubleshooting.html#problems. Otherwise, please fill out this form to alert us of the problem so we can troubleshoot.
- Digital Audio Reserves is a streaming only service made available for CMU classes requiring library audio reserves.
- Only CMU faculty, staff, and students will have access to digital audio reserves both on and off campus. Access is provided through Blackboard using IP authentication. URL links to RealAudio playlists will be provided by the library to be inserted into Blackboard by the course instructor or proxy if adequate recordings are not found in Classical Music Library, Naxos Music Library, or Naxos Fantasy Jazz.
- All material placed on digital audio reserves must be owned by the University Libraries or owned by the course instructor. If the University Libraries does not own a recording the instructor would like to use, every effort will be made to purchase the recording. The instructor’s recording will only be used until the library copy arrives or if a comparable commercial recording is unavailable for purchase.
- Instructors must fill out a Digital Audio Reserves Request Form. These forms are processed in the order received. Forms with complete information are processed first. Please allow up to 14 days for digital audio reserves to be completed and available for listening.
- The University Libraries will not digitize commercially sold anthologies such as Norton in their entirety. Several music anthologies are available through Classical Music Library.
- The University Libraries will digitize non-commercial compact disc compilations owned by an instructor that include complete track listing, artist, title, and source. At the request of the instructor, a provided hard-copy of the original will also be placed on reserve so that students my listen in the library in the event of technical problems with the streaming digital audio reserves. Please allow extra time for processing personal compilations.
- Digital audio reserves may only be made of works being taught in the course.
- Access to digital audio reserves will be removed at the completion of the course.
