The File Room
An active searchable archive documenting arts and censorship case studies from 1800 to the present. Produced originally by the artist, Muntadas and the Randolph Street Gallery, a non-profit artist run center in Chicago, 1979-1998, with the support of the School of Art and Design and the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since 2001, hosted and maintained by the National Coalition Against Censorship.

Mission is "to acquire, archive, document and preserve high quality data sets on key topics in arts and cultural policy, and make them available in a user-friendly format to scholars, journalists, policy makers, artists, cultural organizations, and the public."
Contents include detailed statistical data and "quick facts" about the arts, artists, organizations, and audiences. Includes many useful links to arts and cultural policy resources, academic centers, non-profit and commerical organizations, artists unions, U.S. government and international resources.

A searchable online information service for grantseekers at colleges and universities, available to Carnegie Mellon users via a subscription through the Office of the Associate Provost for Research and Academic Administration. Includes a monthly newsletter, grant and fellowship listings, and hyperlinks to deadline information of federal agencies and independent organizations and foundations.

International Registry of Artists and Artwork
Copyright by the J. Paul Getty Trust (1994) and previously publishers of Art Calendar (1997-1999). As of 2005 for an indefinite period of time, you cannot search the registry online, although work on the registry continues. Contact the Registry for further information.

Petersons.com: The Education Supersite

Alliance of Artists Communities

"Supporting artist-in-residence programs, and advocating for creative environments." Website contains searchable database for residencies and job listings, events news, articles, tips and more.

Americans for the Arts
Non-profit advocacy organization created in 1996 as the result of a merger between the National Assembly of Local Arts Agencies (NALAA) and the American Council for the Arts (ACA). In 2005, Americans for the Arts and Arts & Business Council Inc. merged their operations in order to help increase fundng for the arts from the private sector. The web site is detailed with links, information and documentation about policy, advocacy and legislation, research and professional development as well as news and events. Also includes a full-text online library, an organizations field directory, job bank and national arts policy database.

College Art Association (CAA)
Established in 1911 to advocate for art teaching and scholarship. Holds an annual conference which includes interview sessions for employment. Provides publication opportunities to members through its own publications and awards grants via the Millard Meiss Publication Fund. CAA publications include Art Bulletin, Art Journal, CAA News, conference Abstracts, caa.reviews online, Monographs in the Fine Arts occasional publications.

Business Volunteers for the Arts
Facilitates collaborations and services with business professionals and non-profit arts organizations who want to improve their business practices. Founded 1975.

Creative Capital Foundation
a New York City-based nonprofit organization; funds and promotes "artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual arts, film and video, and in emerging fields"; provides advisory services and professional development assistance to recipients.

The searchable web site features directory information, feature stories and facts on news and trends, related links.

National Coalition Against Censorship
Programs, action alerts and censorship news. Hosts and maintains The File Room, a searchable archive documenting arts and censorship case studies from 1800 to the present. Projects also include the Arts Advocacy Project supporting artistic freedom and Art Now a search engine for finding NCAC news and activities.

National Network for Artist Placement
Produces a number of print guides to help artists in their chosen careers; offers consultations for individuals and groups.

New York Foundation for the Arts Interactive
A national resource advocating for artists and their supporters. Includes event, opportunity and job listings, business of art articles and other online publications; overviews of NYFA artists. Some of the org's funding and programs is limited to New York residents only.

Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts
Offers pro bono legal services, "MediateArt," advocacy, and educational programs for individuals and non-profits.

Women's Caucus For Art (WCA)
Mission is to support women in the visual arts. Holds an annual conference; recognizes women with the National Lifetime Achievement Award. Web site includes a resource list, brief reviews and other information on it's mission, members and organization. Founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association.

Especially useful for grant seeking groups or organizations.
