Computational Design
Research Tips
- You may need to try various terms when searching for information on this topic. These include CAD, CAAD, Computer-Aided Design, Computer-Aided Architectural Design, Architectural Design--Data Processing, and Architecture--Data Processing. For instance, Inspec, listed below, uses the term "Architectural CAD."
- If possible, avoid using the term "architecture" in your searches, since this is a very common word in computer science.
Resources
- ACM Digital Library
Provides access to Association for Computing Machinery articles and proceedings including full-text articles from ACM journals and conference proceedings (from 1991 forward), tables of contents to ACM journals (from 1985 forward), and tables of contents for conference proceedings (from 1985 to 1996).- Architectural Computing Organisation
Architectural Computing is an alliance, formed in 2002, between the five international CAAD organisations (eCAADe, ACADIA, SIGraDi, CAADRIA, CAAD Futures) with links to those organizations' web sites. Publishes International Journal of Architectural Computing listed below.- Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture [proceedings]. Various authors, titles, and publishers. (Annual)
HUNT OVRSZQ-4 NA2728 .A26A; HUNT STACKS-4 NA2728 .A26A
Conference proceedings of The Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA)- CAAD Futures Foundation
Web site includes publications database that indexes articles in CAAD Futures proceedings (see below). See also CumInCAD below.
- CAAD Futures [proceedings]. Various authors, titles, and publishers. (Every two years)
HUNT various call numbers
Proceedings of conferences sponsored by the CAAD Futures Foundation, "to promote the advancement of computer-aided architectural design in the service of those concerned with the quality of the built environment." The 1993 conference was at Carnegie Mellon.- CiteSeer.IST
A scientific literature digital library and search engine that focuses primarily on computer and information science. It also includes cited reference searching and statistics.- CumInCAD: Cumulative Index of Computer Aided Architectural Design (full access for Carnegie Mellon users only)
"CumInCAD is a cumulative index of publications about computer aided architectural design." It includes bibliographic information about papers from journals and conferences such as ACADIA, CAADRIA, ECAADE, SIGRADI, CAAD Futures and others. There is a separate index of Spanish language papers. Access to full text papers is available to Carnegie Mellon users at most Carnegie Mellon IP-addresses by creating a CumInCAD login.- IEEE Xplore
IEEE Xplore provides full-text access to IEEE transactions, journals, and conference proceedings and IEE journals 1988-present, as well as all current IEEE standards. IEEE Xplore provides you with a single source leading to almost one-third of the world's current electrical engineering and computer science literature, with unparalleled access to IEEE and IEE publications.- INSPEC (Carnegie Mellon users only)
1969-. (Updated weekly)
INSPEC (Information Services for Physics, Electronics, and Computing) provides abstracts for scholarly articles in computing, electrical engineering, physics, and information technology. Produced by the Institute of Electrical Engineers. When searching for computer-aided architectural design, use term "architectural CAD."- International Journal of Architectural Computing
HUNT FA-JOUR-4, HUNT JOUR-3
Full-text: International Journal of Architectural Computing.
"Peer-reviewed journal founded by international organizations [eCAADe, ACADIA, SIGraDi, CAADRIA, CAAD Futures] dedicated to promoting collaborative research and development of computer-aided architectural design. IJAC is committed to deepening the understanding of the foundations of digital systems for architectural design and the technologies enabling their development and application."- [The IT Revolution in Architecture.] Basel; Boston; Berlin: Birkhauser, 1999-.
HUNT STACKS-4 Various call numbers
A series of books "reflecting on the effects the virtual dimension is having on architects and archtiecture." Do a Series search in Cameo with the terms "IT Revolution in Architecture" to find these titles.
- International Journal of Design Computing
The International Journal of Design Computing is a refereed journal that is published on the World Wide Web and archived by the University of Sydney Library. The objective of the journal is to promote research and technology transfer in design computing through the publication of interactive, multimedia journal articles within the general area of design computing.
