It could be argued that the entire Carnegie Mellon University Archives be included
under this heading. It is historic value, after all, that moves archivists to
save certain collections in the first place. Add to this the fact that first
Carnegie Tech, and now Carnegie Mellon, has always been an institution ahead
of its time, implementing programs and ideas years before its peers, and the
archives take on another dimension of importance. Despite these arguments, the
following list is limited to those collections dealing with history as it is
and has been taught at CMU, and those collections pertaining to wider local
or social history.
