Mechanical
Engineering Lab, c1914 Carnegie Technical Institute. |
Engineering has always been a strong area of study, first at Carnegie Tech and currently at Carnegie Mellon University. The University's early days as a trade school set a precedent for hands-on training and research with state of the art equipment. This method of study and instruction has been successfully applied by the University to programs of Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Commercial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering & Public Policy, Engineering Design Research Center, Metallurgy & Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Science & Engineering, and Robotics. The University Archives has significant holdings pertaining to fellowships and many chemistry related industrial projects undertaken at the Mellon Institute, which merged with Carnegie Technical Institute in 1967 to create Carnegie Mellon University.
