A century of demographic changes is reflected in personal and institutional
records within the Carnegie Mellon University Archives. These changes echo larger
social shifts nationally as well as the diverse population of Western Pennsylvania
in particular. Holdings are particularly strong pertaining to ethnic and gender
diversity initiatives undertaken by Carnegie Mellon University in the 1970s
and 1980s. The records of Margaret Morrison Carnegie College (1900-1973) include
both offical records of the college and personal student papers, photos and
scrapbooks. This diverse collection provides a rich overview of the many changes
in women's secondary education from the early 1900s up through and beyond World
War II.
