Artistic
Properties at Carnegie Mellon University
Artistic Properties
Works of fine or decorative arts ("artistic properties") are
collected and exhibited by Carnegie Mellon University to enhance the quality
of life on campus, to stimulate education and research, and to preserve
such works for posterity. The University Libraries are responsible for
managing and exhibiting artistic properties owned by the University.
The Artistic
Properties Collection of Carnegie Mellon University includes, but is not
limited to:
- Paintings
on canvas and panel
- Art works
on paper (prints, watercolors, drawings, photographs, etc.)
- Works
on parchment, papyrus and vellum
- Sculpture
- Antique
furnishings (furniture, carpets, vases, ceramics, coins, stamps, etc.)
- Anthropological
artifacts
Who Can Use
the Artistic Properties Collection?
The Artistic Properties Collection is available to all faculty and staff
members for office and department display, as well as educational instruction.
How can
I see the works and choose?
To view the Artistic Properties Collection you must set up an appointment
with the Archives and Art Inventory Specialist, Katie Behrman, at 412-268-5021
or by email at kbehrman@andrew.cmu.edu.You

Office hours
are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 1pm to 5pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays,
9am to 1pm.
Is there
a catch?
Works from the collection are loaned, free of charge, to Carnegie Mellon
University faculty and staff members for use on campus. The loans may
be indefinite but ownership of the item remains with the University. Installation
of certain pieces must be directed by the Archives and Art Inventory Specialist.
