About the Oakland Library ConsortiumMembers of the Carnegie Mellon community can use and borrow directly from most University of Pittsburgh libraries* and from The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, because we participate in the Oakland Library Consortium (OLC).
You must have a library card in order to borrow items:*Some Pitt libraries do not participate in OLC: Fine Arts, Law, Nursing, Western Psych, and branch libraries in Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, and Titusville.
- University of Pittsburgh - To get a "Special Borrower" card, go to the Hillman Library lending desk. Faculty and staff must show their Carnegie Mellon ID card; students must show their Carnegie Mellon ID and proof of current registration (the PAT bus sticker can serve this function).
- Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - To get a library card, go to the Main Library lending desk. Show your current Carnegie Mellon ID and proof of your local residence, such as a bill or letter addressed to you in Pittsburgh or elsewhere in Allegheny County.
To borrow items from nonparticipating libraries, request interlibrary loan.
