HELIOS

The Heinz Electronic Library Interactive Online System (HELIOS) allows researchers to search, browse, view and print nearly 800,000 digital images from the Senator H. John Heinz III Archives. The images include the Heinz Senate Papers and the Heinz House of Representatives Papers, including committee files, VIP correspondence, campaign material, voting records, speeches, and legislation drafts. With specifications developed by Carnegie Mellon archivists, HELIOS supports conventional access to archival materials, and adds powerful new functions for searching and retrieving documents. The bulk of the collection (1 million images) will be available electronically by the project's completion. HELIOS features the CLARITweb natural-language-retrieval interface, developed in partnership with the Claritech Corporation.

HELIOS is being superceded by "HELIOS II," the DIVA project.
