Carnegie Mellon Libraries: Giving Opportunities: Gifts of Materials

Gifts of Materials

Gifts of materials (including books, journals, art, artifacts, and memorabilia) are tremendously important to the University Libraries. Over the years, we have acquired many treasured items from donors who have entrusted us to preserve their materials or collections, and to make them available to the greater community.

Among our special collections, the Fine and Rare Book Rooms, the Art Properties Collection, the Architecture Archives, the Senator H. John Heinz III Archives and the University Archives would not exist as they are today without gifts. These unique assets are valued and used by historians and scholars worldwide.

We encourage inquiries about gifts of materials from all prospective donors. Liaison librarians and archivists often work with prospective donors to acquire appropriate materials for University Libraries collections. However, the University Libraries are strictly prohibited from appraising items or collections.
