Endowments
An endowment is truly "a gift that keeps on giving" -- the principal remains
intact, and only a percentage of the earned income is used by the library annually.
If you wish, you can contribute to one of several existing University Libraries endowments that have been established by generous patrons to build specific collections, to memorialize colleagues, mentors or friends, and for other purposes.
With a gift of $25,000 or more, you can create a new permanent endowment for the University Libraries. A named endowment insures your recognition as a significant library benefactor in perpetuity, although your endowment can be anonymous if you wish. You can create a permanent endowment for a particular purpose, such as facility renovation, or to help build library collections in a field or discipline of your choice. Endowments may also be designated as memorial or honorary gifts, which can be identified with your name as well as the person remembered or honored. If you donate funds to establish an endowment, you will be invited to meet with the University Librarian and others to discuss your wishes for the endowment. Your involvement will continue as you are informed about your endowment growth and annual spending.
Donors of $1000 or more become members of the Andrew Carnegie Society, the university's annual giving society. Donors of $100 or more may apply for library borrowing privileges. All donors receive annual mailings from the library about current projects and initiatives.
