Event Guidelines
Proposals for events to be held in Hunt Library's Maggie Murph Cafe venue may be made by any Carnegie Mellon student, faculty or staff member, as an individual or on behalf of a class or campus organization. Although welcoming Carnegie Mellon community use of the space, the University Libraries strongly assert that library users' rights and expectations for library use are our priority.
The "Maggie Murph Cafe venue" is the greater cafe seating area, which is furnished with tables and chairs. It does not include the Cafe proper. The area seats 65 (maximum).
- Scheduling
- Events may be scheduled ONLY Monday through Friday, between 4:30 and 6 p.m.
- Events must not interfere with the commercial activities of the Cafe proper, if it is scheduled to be open.
- Events must not interfere with regular library use in any way.
- Obtaining Permission (below)
- Support services
- Event catering may be arranged through the Cafe or with Campus Dining Services, at your own cost.
- Audiovisual and/or computing support may be arranged with Campus Media Technology, at your own cost.
- Set-up and clean-up
- Event organizer is responsible for arranging the venue as needed for the event, and clean-up and return to normal arrangement following the event.
- Event organizer must not damage any library structure or furnishings.
- Event organizer will be charged for damage or clean-up if required following the event.
- Signage
Information about the event (title, date, begin/end times) must be posted in the greater Cafe area before and during the event.
- At least two (2) weeks before a desired event, the event planner must submit a completed proposal form.

- The proposal will be reviewed by University Libraries Council, which meets weekly during the academic year
- Planner may be asked to explain or clarify proposal before a decision is made by Council.
- Planner will be informed promptly if clarifications are needed, and about the library's final decision on the proposal.
