2007 Library Appreciation Picnic

The 2007 University Libraries Excellence Award winners were announced by Dean Gloriana St. Clair at a celebratory picnic in the Peace Garden on May 31. Isabelle Eula and Kim Sestili earned Excellence Awards, and runner-up nominees were also honored by name and accomplishment. Library faculty and staff were recognized for 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service.

Award Nominees

• Diane Covington (biology and chemistry librarian, Mellon Institute Library) was nominated for her time management skills and exceptional willingness to cross-train and assist science libraries operations in numerous capacities.
  
• Barry Schles (resource sharing associate, Hunt Library) was nominated for excellence satisfying interlibrary loan users at Hunt Library and on the Qatar campus despite the fact that interlibrary loan borrowing has more than doubled in the last five years.

Award Winners

• Isabelle Eula, Qatar librarian, earned the Library Faculty Excellence Award. She was nominated by the assistant dean for student affairs at CMUQ who noted that Isabelle has earned the respect of the CMUQ community, in particular for:
  
  • Depth and extent of her involvement in the Qatar campus
• Ability to fill all the roles for the library there
• Contributions to the design of the new library
• Managing move of library to its next temporary location
• Representing of library issues to all constituents
  
• Kim Sestili, accounts manager in Hunt Library acquisitions, earned the Library Staff Excellence Award. She was nominated for displaying extraordinary poise during a stressful year in which the Libraries' materials ordering system was scrutinized by auditors. For months during the audit, Kim calmly answered questions, explained procedures and corrected mistakes, while continuing to do her regular job managing acquisitions accounts. After the audit, Kim worked closely with university finance personnel to fine-tune acquisitions accounting procedures.
